Breast augmentation performed with the insertion of silicone gel implants began in 1962 with the first implants containing silicone gel within a silicone shell. The evolution of the implants regarding the silicone gel, the surrounding silicone shell, and techniques for implant insertion have spanned more than 60 years with advances in implant design, silicone gel content, and the position where the implants are placed.
Another anatomical position for the implant was described which would decrease the rate of capsular contracture with an added benefit of no motion deformity since the implant was placed above the muscle.
This technique was labelled sub-fascial breast augmentation. Essentially, this technique is much less uncomfortable and provides all the benefits of sub-muscular implant placement.
I have adopted this technique which provides a beautiful, natural shaped breast, with a very low incidence of capsular contracture, with no motion deformity.
The patient acceptance has been remarkable because recovery is minimally uncomfortable and the breasts are soft and natural.
