A hemostatic net in brow repositioning and in facelift and necklift surgery is a technique using sutures to secure the skin to underlying tissues, preventing hematoma formation and promoting faster recovery. It works by eliminating dead space and ensuring the skin adheres to the deeper structures, minimizing blood or fluid accumulation. This can lead to less bruising, swelling, and faster healing after surgery.
I began using the hemostatic net several years ago and I am impressed with the results. Patients recover more quickly and eliminating the need to place drains under the elevated skin is an added patient benefit, reducing the discomfort that drains cause and the discomfort that patients feel on removing the drains. Although it looks strange to patients because the sutures are visible, they are removed in 2-3 days before they leave any marks in the skin.
The hemostatic net involves a series of sutures that connect the skin to the underlying tissues, creating a “net” that prevents the formation of pockets where blood can pool.
By closing the dead space between the skin and the deeper structures, the hemostatic net minimizes the risk of hematoma, which is a collection of blood under the skin.
• Reduced bruising and swelling: The hemostatic net can significantly reduce bruising and swelling in the early post-operative period, leading to a quicker recovery and more satisfied patients.
• Faster healing: By preventing hematomas, the hemostatic net can expedite the healing process and allow patients to return to their normal activities sooner.
• Enhanced precision: In some cases, the hemostatic net can help the surgeon achieve a more precise redraping of the skin, especially in browlift surgery as well as in facelifting and in necklifting procedures.
• In fact, by using the hemostatic net, the skin can be advanced further in the face and neck providing a more juvenating result by creating a more well-defined jawline.
• The technique, although introduced about 11 years ago, has become more accepted and utilized as more experience has shown its’ remarkable benefit.
